Our primary purpose in offering this program is to provide a service to working parents. Our intention is to provide a quality care program, in a safe environment, for St. Martin of Tours Academy students in Grades K-8.
Day care is available every school day except after dismissal on Holy Thursday, Grandparents’ Day and the last day of school. Day care hours are 7:00 – 7:55 a.m. and 2:30 – 6:00 p.m. On minimum days, the program runs from 12:00 – 6:00 p.m. Lunch must be provided on minimum days. Day care is $5 per hour and billed through FACTS (Tuition Management Company) on the 15th of the month. A $10 late fee is charged plus $1 per minute due at time of sign out. Students arriving at school before 7:45 a.m. must sign into day care. This service provides a safe environment along with opportunities for exercise, reading, games and homework assistance.
During Yoga Rascals’ classes students travel on an imaginary yoga adventure. Along the way they learn a variety of yoga poses and poems, as well as breathing and relaxation techniques. Students also play a yoga game, and take a “yoga nap”, a guided relaxation, at the end of class.
Practicing yoga regularly increases flexibility and strength, improves balance and coordination, develops focus and concentration, and promotes a positive self-image. Yoga Rascals classes aim at reducing stress, developing kindness, and nurturing a peaceful mindset – all while having lots of fun.
Instructor Sarah Grisafi has a Bachelor’s Degree in early childhood education, and has worked with children for more than a decade. She is also a certified children’s yoga instructor.
Christian Youth Theater, the national leader in children’s theater, is devoted to introducing performing arts to children, by providing a high-quality experience that is educational and enjoyable. The curriculum offers standards-based instruction by teachers who are enthusiastic, fun, positive role models. Classes are offered twice a week to grades 1-3 and grades 4-8. Have fun learning a new language! Students will learn short, useful conversations about things in every day life: sports, school, family. Classes offered for K-2 and 3-5. Instructor Maribel Saldana, earned her Master’s Degree from SDSU. She has worked at The Spanish Institute which enabled her to work with all Spanish levels for children and high school students. Mad Science offers a hands-on, one-hour science program that is thematically based upon a particular area of science and includes such topics as rocketry, magnets, polymers and even the science of toys. Children engage in exciting hands-on activities, watch spectacular demonstrations and participate in inquiry-based discussions. Children take home exciting projects that they make themselves like model rockets, periscopes, Mad Science putty and more. Curriculum meets state and national science standards. Mad Science is scheduled throughout the school year and runs for 5 weeks at a time for grades K-6.
This fun and easy class accepts students in all grades. Classes will be held on Wednesday. A guitar and pick is needed. Guitars may be rented at most music stores or a recommendation is to purchase it at Costco – Yamaha 6 string steel acoustic guitar ($139-$189) includes case and strap. Woodshop Wizards is an after school program from Junior Builder’s Academy. Woodshop Wizard offers the opportunity to enrich skill and knowledge in the world of woodworking. The program was created to provide youth the opportunity to lean the basic concepts of woodworking while fostering self esteem, self confidence and offering a skill set. Offered to students in grades 1-5.
The after school dance program program is taught similar to a dance studio class, and focuses on jazz dance technique. Dancers learn proper stretching, dance techniqued, and dance routines. All dancers in the after school program have the opportunity to perform in various events throughout the school year. Classes are every Monday in the parish hall for students in grades 3-8. Performance opportunities include Disneyland Christmas Parade, SDSU Football Halftime Show in the Fall and St. Patrick’s Day Parade and SMA Open House in the Spring. Dance Program 2019
Students in grades 3-8 are welcome to learn traditional Folklorico Mexican dancing after school from 2:45-3:30pm Classes are held in the parish hall. Instructor Dory Miller has been teaching this class for 20 years at SMA. Folklorico Mexican Dance Class 2019
Chess classes are offered through the San Diego Chess Academy. The San Diego Chess Academy is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to teaching children the wonderful game of chess. Tests have shown that young chess players develop strong analytical and problem solving skills. Chess players do better in school and develop valuable leadership skills. Using a proven curriculum designed to make chess fun and exciting, their US Chess Federation Certified Instructors can help your child to develop the skills that will help him or her excel in the future.
The San Diego Chess Academy provides high quality instruction and professionally run competitions for chess players of all skill levels. The San Diego Chess Academy has a full staff of experienced, professional, teachers. Chess class is offered on Thursday’s throughout the school year and offered to all students.
