Tonight! An Evening for Parents and Students
We encourage parents and students to participate in lessons and activities in the classroom as applied to Pilon® Workshop Way® Strategies in Action this evening. Refreshments, hosted by Room Parents, will follow Session 2. Child care is available (5:55 – 7:00 PM) in the day care room for siblings who are not yet in school.
Catholic Schools Week Activities – begins on Sunday!
Sunday Jan. 29th – Academy Mass
9 AM Celebrating Catholic Schools
Mass with a pancake breakfast following in Barry Hall. SMA students will be participating in all aspects of the Mass All students are asked to wear school uniforms to Mass.
“Souper” Bowl Canned Food Drive begins
Monday – Joan Kroc ice-skating 3:15-5:30 PM
*Tuesday – Pep Rally (add on green & gold day for all)
*Wednesday – “Caps for Kids” -wear a cap/hat
($1.00-fundraiser) (see below)
Thursday – Big Friend/Little Friend Activities
Friday – Jean Day with Class Color • K-Red, 1- Blue, 2 – Black & White, 3- Orange, 4- Yellow, 5- Purple, 6 – Gold/Silver, 7- Pink,8 – Rainbow
*Tuesday, 1/31 -Pep Rally Parents are invited to the pep rally at 2pm. Sports pictures follow after school at 2:45. Students in grade K-4 may wear their whole sports uniform to school (no cleats) and grades 5-8 may only wear their jersey with uniform and change after school for sports pictures. Please note: This will be the only opportunity for sports team & individual pictures.
*Wednesday, 2/1 – “Caps for Kids”! “Caps for Kids” mission is to provide every child that is
diagnosed and undergoing treatment for cancer or receiving chemotherapy a cap autographed by the athlete, entertainer or other notable celebrity of their choice. To a child who has lost their hair due to chemotherapy treatments, the caps help them establish a special bond with their celebrity hero. Cap Day is a fun opportunity for our students to give back to the community. Wear your hat or cap and donate a $1!
Looking Ahead to Conferences:
Friday, January 27, marks the end of second quarter. The school year will soon be half over and so that means it is time for the second session of teacher-parent-student conferences. (February 1, 2, 3) Now is an opportune time to review progress with both academics and, what is equally important, life skills. (list enclosed) Essential in developing responsibility for one’s own actions, is the student’s ability to recognize and evaluate his/her own progress. We call it self-assessment and the teachers continually work with their students on this in the classroom. The Conference Preparation Worksheet is meant to facilitate that process. If you have any questions, concerns, etc. please jot them down on the worksheet so that they can be addressed at conference time. A reminder regarding appointment dates/times (family list) will be posted outside the office. Refer to your confirmation e-mail that was sent in October for your conference time or check time on the school website after logging in. Please make every effort to be present, with your child, at the scheduled time. (Since it is difficult for each teacher to schedule and hold so many conferences in the time set aside, your cooperation is greatly appreciated.)
Mountain Mike’s Tuition Assistance Fundraiser
Join SMA families for lunch or dinner from 11 AM-9 PM on Thursday, February 2nd (conference week). Present this ticket when you order and 20% of the proceeds of your purchase will be donated to the tuition assistance fund. A ticket is enclosed and will also be emailed to each family for you to share and/or distribute to others while in line! Additional tickets are in the school office.
Barnes and Noble Book Fair
Parents have the opportunity to contribute to our library by shopping at Barnes and Noble. Book Fair vouchers will be emailed to every family. Print them if you go to the store or shop online using your book fair number and 10% will be credited to our school. Enjoy the wide selection of books and other items for your students and family members of all ages. Last year, with your support, our library earned $113. 79 Barnes & Noble purchase credit. This year let’s double the credit so we can continue to update our library with new books!

|Printers for sale
There are two HP 3830 Wireless Color Inkjet Printers that are for sale at $40 each. One printer is a HP 3510. They were purchased in 9/15 and did not work out in the classrooms. Call the office if you are interested or would like to check them out!

Financial Aid Update!
Bishop Flores & SMA Tuition Assistance Grants
We encourage families to apply for assistance if there is a need. The Bishop Flores grant application deadline is Feb. 28, 2017. St. Martin Academy recently switched to “TADS” Financial Aid Assessment which is the same company Bishop Flores Scholarship Fund uses. Parents may apply to both SMA & Bishop Flores with just one application and one fee!
