Solar Begins! (News Release)

Our parish and school recently flipped the switch on a 68,020-watt solar system. We anticipate to save over $1,484,900 over the lifetime of the system, which will be reinvested into the church, Academy and over 1,500 families that we serve.

“As we know, solar power systems derive clean, pure energy from the sun; these systems also combat greenhouse gas emissions and reduce our collective dependence on fossil fuel.” said Father Chris Kintanar, “We are helping save our planet while reducing our expenses too – it’s definitely a win-win situation.”

“As the principal of St. Martin of Tours Academy, I am very proud that we are one of a few Catholic schools now being powered by solar energy.” said Principal Dimuzio, “What better way to have our students understand the need to care for our environment than to see their school combating greenhouse gas emissions and reducing our collective dependence on fossil fuel energy.”

The solar powered system is comprised of 213 SunPower modules, with an expected useful life of more than 40 years. The Sullivan Solar Power system is expected to generate over 3,555,200 kwh, which is the equivalent to 6,126 barrels of oil not consumed. Sullivan Solar Power will continue to monitor the system, ensuring both the cost savings, health and environmental benefits of the solar system.
