Parent Newsletter 10/12/17

Dear Parents,

We have 24 days remaining before the SMA Great Cash Giveaway on November 4th. Have you distributed your “family dozen” yet?  Thank you to those 25 families who have already turned in their tickets and especially those who have sold above and beyond the required twelve.

The evening promises to be exciting with the opportunity of winning $10,000.  It is a great occasion to gather together as a school and parish community. You will be supporting our school in an important way, while at the same time, experiencing an enjoyable evening.

In your parent envelope last week is an opportunity to purchase Fair Trade gifts.  This optional fundraiser benefits our 5th grade class by earning money for 6th grade camp in 2018.  We hope you peruse the catalogs (think of Christmas) and purchase gifts that are sourced justly throughout the supply chain.  The fifth grade class will also have a table at the Fair Trade Gift Faire this Sunday in the parish hall and the eighth grade will be hosting the parish bake sale.

Students in grades 2-8 completed the Renaissance STAR in mathematics and reading recently and the reports are enclosed.  This assessment, given three times a year, is another tool for teachers to use and is not a replacement for the in depth knowledge they will have of each student.  Do not return the reports.  This is for your records.

We have reviewed our Release for Electronic Student Work/Photograph/Video and would like to be more specific in regards to your authorization for your child to be on social media.  Please complete and return the form by Thurs. 10/19.  photo-release

Issues and Procedures on Campus & Church Grounds
There was an incident this past weekend concerning transients on church grounds during Mass. Father Chris has put some suggestions in place if you are in the Gathering Plaza or on the grounds.   He says we are very fortunate so far that nothing serious has happened concerning transients in our church. However, due to the presence of marijuana dispensaries nearby, we might expect these incidents to happen more often.

1. Please report to either Toni Dimuzio, Father Chris or Dora (parish administrator) any incident of this nature. Dora will keep will keep track of these incidents.  Parish office – 465-5334
2. Call the La Mesa Police if the transient is harassing you or others and/or refuses to leave the premises when asked.
3.  Look for an usher to assist.
