Grandparents’ Day – Tomorrow!
Our 25th annual day of welcoming grandparents and great-grandparents to our school is tomorrow. This is a BIG day at SMA! We want to thank, in advance, Anna Kennedy and all of the room parents and parent volunteers who are involved with preparing the food stations and hall set up. Please note the schedule for the day. FYI: minimum day -dismissal at 11:30am (no hot lunch) – no afternoon day care. The parish hall parking lot will be reserved for handicap parking and those grandparents who have trouble walking up the hill or stairs. There will be a golf cart to assist when needed.
8:30am Mass (dress uniform for students – parents welcome!)
9:30- 10:15 Classroom visits and food stations (grandparents only)
10:15-10:30 Proceed to the parish hall for entertainment by school children
10:30 – 11:30 Entertainment by school children (grandparents only)
11:30 Dismissal for all (no day care)
Although parents are invited to the school Mass on Grandparents’ Day, we ask that only grandparents come for classroom visits and the brunch and entertainment that follows. The day is specifically for them and for our invited guests. FYI: Some parents will be helping with the coffee and food stations.
For those parents who are volunteering, please park across the street at Auto Zone. Park in the back or next to the street, not in front of the store.
Year-end Dinner & Open House (All are Invited!)
On Thursday, May 24, we will have a family picnic dinner on the field. Dinner is sponsored by the fifth grade class and proceeds will go towards their 2019 sixth grade camp fee. There will also be entertainment provided by SMA’s Folklorico Mexican Dance Class & Mrs. Collins Dance Team. Student projects will be on display throughout the school. Open House begins at 5:45 and ends at 7pm. Dinner orders are due Friday morning, May 18th. (flyers were enclosed in last week’s parent envelope)
SMA Great Cash Giveaway Meeting – Volunteer Opportunities!
The GCGA committee is hosting a meeting for parents who would like to volunteer for our largest fundraising event on November 3, 2018. The meeting will be held in the fifth grade classroom at 2:45pm on Wed. May 16th. This is a great way to complete service hours! The theme this year is “A Night Under the Big Top”! The event will include dinner, music, dancing, live and silent auctions, and multiple cash prizes… culminating with the $10,000 Grand Cash Prize!
Service Hours Due May 31st / End of year Accounting
May 31st is the last day to log in your service hours for the current school year. Please go to the parent sign in on the school website and log your service hours.
Prayer Service Honoring Mary
All are invited to a short prayer service in the church on Thursday, May 17th at 11:15am.
Project Based Learning
Fifth Grade students engaged in a “Behind the Scenes” Tour at the San Diego Zoo. This was a culminating project to demonstrate their understanding of the natural relationships through an environmental lens including: use of resources, conservation, and the complicated decision-making processes related to climate change.
NEW AT SMA:
P.E. Instructor, Liana Zoni has introduced badminton to the grades 5-8. The students are enjoying the sport and developing news skills!
New Signs on Campus!
We have new signs at the entrance of our driveway and in front of Preschool. We hope you like them as much as we do! The signs blend with parish signs to give us a uniform look!
You may have noticed the additional security cameras around the school and monitors in the school office and day care. This extra “layer” of security will help keep our campus safe and protected. This week we also installed an electronic gate at the entrance to the daycare. To access the daycare, please press the buzzer. The staff will be able to identify you and release the gate.
• Catholic Schools’ Night at the Padres -ticket orders due Tuesday, 5/15.
• School holiday 5/14
