As we near the time for graduation, I cannot help reflecting on the tremendous advantage our graduating students have upon entering high school. The education they have received at St. Martin of Tours Academy, both academically and spiritually, is exceptional and of the highest quality. The Pilon® Workshop Way® system of education, their daily religious instruction and the teaching of both academic and life skills have prepared them well for their future goals. The teachers, staff and I are extremely proud of the Class of 2018, and we wish them much success in high school and beyond.
When we say good-bye to the Class of 2018 we are also saying good-bye to some of the parents of our graduates who will no longer have children in the school. The following are also “graduating” and we want them to know we will miss them as parents in our school community: Elena & Michael Bertino, Pamela & Charles Brock, Erin & David Bushey, Terri & Chris Dimolios, Emily & Thomas Gould, Darlene & Steve Hastings, Theresa & Brad Hicks, Yazmin & Craig Holton, Lucila & Andrew Kahl, Kimberly & Shayne Kirkpatrick, Tawnya & Thomas Macchiarella, Kathleen & Chuck Oakey, Nikki & Jaime Paredes, Angelina Destephanis, Renee & Ramon Ruiz, Leonora & Chris Brown, Chloe Hodge & Joshua Zane
In addition to offering congratulations to the Class of 2018, I say “congratulations” to each parent and teacher who has instructed, guided, influenced and helped them to be better people. When the foundation is strong, the chances for success increase dramatically. I personally see this when our “alums” visit us and tell of their accomplishments or when a parent calls and is bursting with pride because their child has been honored in high school or college. Some recent “testimonials” are posted on the school website and under Alum of the Month. This month we featured Maureen Moran from the Class of 1973.
You are all invited to the Graduation Mass next Friday, June 8th at 3pm to celebrate the Class of 2018.
Open House – Thank You!
We had a wonderful turnout for our end of the year open house and dinner! We thank Tracy Giordano for coordinating/organizing all aspects of the pizza dinners and fifth grade room parents who assisted that night & offered a bake sale for dessert. The profit from the dinners ($668.00 -$302.50 cost of pizzas) and bake sale ($350.50) totaled: $716.00. Proceeds go toward the 2019 sixth grade camp fund.
Everyone enjoyed the entertainment from the Folklorico Mexican Dancers and Mrs. Collins Dance Class. We thank all the students who participated. (Folklorico Mexican dancers will also be in the La Mesa Flag Day parade this Saturday at 10am.)
After the dinner, students and parents visited the classrooms, met teachers and enjoyed the projects displayed inside the classrooms. Our local representative & parishioner from the La Mesa Library, Denise Stutzman was also available to talk about the reading programs offered this summer. We thank all those who contributed to make this an outstanding evening.

Alum of the Month
For the month of June we feature Maureen Moran from the Class of 1973.
The Moran family of ten headed west from Colorado to San Diego in 1965. I went to St. Vincent de Paul for the 1st grade and completed 2-8 at St. Martin’s. I shared my education with my Irish twin, Mike Moran. We walked to and from school every day, one mile each way from the Village of La Mesa where my dear mother, Patricia still resides. These daily walks helped build up my endurance for later in life. Due to the sacrifices my parents made, I was blessed with an extraordinary education at St. Martin’s. The nuns/teachers instilled the values of discipline, respect and love of God that has been the spiritual bedrock of my adult life.
Read about her incredible endurance events and travels and how she gives back to our parish at

Please keep in your prayers. . .
