I wish to inform you that I am retiring as principal of St. Martin of Tours Academy in June, 2018. However, I am not leaving. In September, I will be assuming another role as Workshop Way® Consultant. I will return to do what I love most – being in the classroom working directly with students and teachers.
I have found my tenure as principal to be rewarding and a blessing in my life, but am now looking forward to a more flexible schedule and new experiences. I want to thank everyone who has supported me over the years, especially the office staff, Diane Hartley (Vice Principal), all my teachers and staff, School Board, Room Parents, Bob Dyar (Finance Committee), Father Jim Poulsen, Father Chris Kintanar and all those who over the years have supported me with kind words of encouragement, reassurance and direction in difficult times.
In the next couple of weeks, a community panel comprised of staff, parents and parishioners will assist our pastor, Father Chris, in confirming my successor. It will be someone who has experience, is dedicated to Catholic education, and most importantly, is committed to the Pilon® System of Education: Workshop Way®.
I look forward to this next chapter in my life with excitement and peace. I hope you will support the school and me as we make this transition. I will be involved in this process as I assume my duties as Workshop Way® consultant. If you have any questions or concerns, please address them to me personally or to Father Chris.
With much appreciation and gratitude,

If you have expertise in marketing or would like to help our school, please attend the Strategic Planning meeting on Monday, 2/26 at 4pm in the 5th grade classroom. Questions? Survey Monkey – Catholic Identity Survey – Update
On January 19, we sent paper surveys in your parent envelopes regarding our Catholic Identity. As part of the WCEA (Western Catholic Educational Association) protocol, Improving Student Learning, we are asked each year to study two Catholic Identity standards as a means of self-evaluation. Only 32 surveys were returned. Please complete the survey here: Catholic Identity Standards. If you are not sure of any of the questions, please put N/A. Thank you to Reina Castro who formatted the online survey. We ask for 100% participation. Your response is valuable and appreciated.

Human Trafficking – A must see presentation for ALL Academy parents and for those students in grs. 6, 7, 8
For the convenience of our families it was decided not to add another parent meeting to your schedules but to encourage you to attend the Friday, Lenten dinner and speaker series. The first presentation addresses human trafficking. (flyer attached with more information)
Presenter, Sara Campbell is a parishioner at Saint Brigid Parish. In her job she is part of a task force involving several law enforcement and other organizations who are grappling with the issue of human trafficking. Msgr. Steven Callahan, the pastor discussed with her what could be done at the parish level in a proactive way to help educate our people on the extent of this problem and how to prevent our youth from being swept up into it.
In the fall of 2017 Sara made a presentation with her colleague to the young people in grades 6, 7 and 8 of faith formation, with their parents present and other interested parishioners as well. The response to Sara’s presentation was overwhelmingly positive. Parents were both shocked at the extent of the problem, and highly appreciative to have the opportunity to talk about the issue with them and their children.
If you have a teenager, we encourage your attendance. Childcare is available. Donations appreciated.
