St. Martin Academy is offering an opportunity to bring your animal companions to school for a special blessing at 2pm. This custom commemorates St. Francis of Assisi’s love for all creatures. Usually on the Feast Day of St. Francis (Oct. 4) a procession of animals, everything from dogs and cats to hamsters are led to churches for a special ceremony called the Blessing of Pets. Pets need to be on a leash or in a cage. No stuffed animals….but photographs would be sufficient. The love we give to a pet, and receive from a pet, can draw us more deeply into the larger circle of life, into the wonder of our common relationship with our Creator.
