Mike stands in front of his classmates at his 50th Class of 1967 reunion at SMA on August 27, 2017!
It all began with my Mom’s parents moving to La Mesa in 1925. My grandmother was St. Martin’s choir director and organist for many, many years. My grandfather was the contractor who built St. Martin Academy and the convent. Also, in 1949 he moved the old church (Father Barry Hall) to its present location.
I was blest in spending my formative years of K through 8th grade with my SMA family. From Mrs. Magnus in kindergarten, and my favorite nun, Sister Karen Marie for both 2nd and 4th grades, to my favorite teacher, MOM, for 7th grade, St. Martin Academy was a wonderful place to learn and grow. I credit my Catholic education (and my Mom) in both nurturing my faith, as well as providing me the foundation to excel throughout college, and my career. I attended the University of San Diego High School, and was a member of the National Honor Society, and graduated with Honors from San Diego State, with a degree in Business Administration.
I worked for San Diego Gas and Electric for 35 years, recently retiring in December 2016. For nearly half of my career, I worked in the Fuel and Power Contracts Department, buying and selling natural gas and electric power for the Company. For the other half, I managed SDG&E’s five southern construction districts’ material yards and warehouses.
God has given me a great family. I have two beautiful daughters, Lauren (37), and Cara (34), and three grandchildren. At the Saturday and Sunday evening Masses, I sing with my brother Dennis, who leads the Contemporary Choir. My 93 year old Dad, Ernie, attends the Sunday 5:00 p.m. Mass with us.
Thanks again, St. Martin Academy, for your positive influence on my life.
