Jessica Cavanaugh – Class of 2001• May 2018

I am so proud of the fact that I am a St. Martin of Tours Academy Alum. SMA has influenced my life in so many ways. Some of my first childhood memories begin at SMA: from meeting my best friend (of 26 years now!) Lauren Barclay, my very first jog-a-thon, to learning our multiplications in Ms. Mazarra’s class. All of the volunteering, learning, Workshop Way,

playing sports and, most importantly, learning about my Catholic faith, have shaped me to become the woman that I am today.

After SMA, I attended the Academy of Our Lady of Peace and went on to UCSD in 2010 and received a BA in Visual Arts with emphases in media and history.

I am forever grateful for my parents and their decision to send my brother and me to this school. I am also grateful for their guidance not only as Catholic parents, but for inadvertently leading me into my career choice. I have been a dispatcher for the San Diego Police Department for 5 years. My father retired as a Lieutenant for SDPD where he worked for 31 years, and my mother Frances retired as a Dispatcher where she met my father, and subsequently worked together for 30 years. I am so proud of their legacy and the fact that I am given the privilege to continue the Cavanaugh name within the department. Working as a public servant has truly given me the opportunity to be selfless and give back to my community. And I feel like it all started here at St. Martin’s.
