I attended SMA starting with Kindergarten and graduated in 2003. I wasn’t the first or the last Johnston to attend though – I have three older sisters, one older brother, and one younger brother who all graduated from St. Martin’s. My mother, Lynne, works as the bookkeeper now. I have many fond memories from my time there, many with friends I keep to this day. In particular, I really enjoyed playing sports – soccer, flag football, and basketball – so please support the athletics and P.E. program! In the classroom, Workshop Way helped me to think and work independently. Learning to follow instructions and be proactive are two qualities that are strongly enforced and will be forever useful in life.
After SMA I attended St. Augustine High School and graduated with honors. I went on to the University of Oregon where I graduated with a BS in Human Physiology. I was fascinated with the human body and its ability to adapt. In particular, I was excited about exercise physiology and working with athletes. After graduation, I studied to become a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). I went back to St. Augustine and assisted with the strength and conditioning program for all Varsity and JV sports. I also worked briefly as the P.E. teacher at SMA for one semester before taking on personal training and coaching full time. Around that time, I met my beautiful wife Emily –we married in November 2014.
Emily gave birth to our daughter, Ella Rose, in January 2016. During her pregnancy, I decided that it was time for a career change so that I could better support my growing family. I studied for my California real estate license and began my new career immediately. I have been blessed to find
success in selling real estate, which is actually quite similar to coaching (with a lot more paperwork)! I am currently working with Coldwell Banker West and loving the new challenge of being in business for myself.
